Air

Ulrike Königshofer’s multimedia practice explores human perception and the question of how we form an understanding of the world in everyday life. In her installation, a turntable playing a wind recording drives several fans, whose airflows become both physically and acoustically perceptible in the space. In doing so, she transforms sound waves into another form of moving air. The work thus opens new access to the seemingly familiar experience of hearing, revealing that sound is not an objectively fixed phenomenon, but is constituted through ongoing processes of perception and translation.
